KASIA SZCZĘCH - PORTFOLIO
Hello,My name is Kasia Szczech and I am a pianist, harpist and composer. I am completing my bachelors in music composition at Depaul University School of Music. I am an Organist at St. Alberts the Great church and the director of music at the Polish school Mikolaja Reja run by Director and head Kazimiera Gal. I also do a lot of performing with my trio Magical Keys and teach private piano lessons in my home. We are entertainment for dinner time at weddings, christenings, gatherings, Christmas parties, and more. We are mainly known for playing wedding ceremonies. In our trio Magical Keys, we work as a group to bring as much pleasure to music as possible, whether it is pop or jazz or even gypsy music! Our goal is to bring entertainment in a very smooth and fun way, by still creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Music is a passion for me. It is like religion. I don’t see myself doing anything else in my daily life except for music. Whether it is crazy ideas for composing an opera, or simply teaching kids how to sing and enjoy the same passion. My goal is to open a studio and bring all kids together to make them understand and work with each other to make music they call amazing. I want to compose music for these kids, and I want them to understand it and perform it for as many people as they can. I want them to enjoy themselves as much as I enjoyed writing music for them. I wish to compose for big companies and ensembles around the world one day and collaborate with other artists from different fields. Music is a visual art for me. In order to understand it, you must watch what the performers are doing to create the music. This is why theatre and visual arts have always been a part of my heart. I have co-composed three operas in my teens and collaborated with many professional musicians that taught me the art of theatre in music, the real voice of opera and how the puzzle comes together.
On that note; my goals for my polish school kids are big. They understand how theatre fits into music, every single one of them. They come to class once a week on Saturday, and within that hour, every one of them throws an idea on how to make this production even bigger and better. They are thinking of ways to make costumes, how the stage should look like, what they should act in between lines of the song, and more. These kids are incredible to work with. Coming to a workplace like this only make me a better person and inspires me to make greater music of my own. We are currently working on a project that I’ve called “The Rubik Project”, where we take all of Piotr Rubik’s, a polish orchestral and choral composer, songs and learn to sing them but also re-enact the lyrics and make it into a musical-type production. Not only are the kids learning how to sing, but they’re also learning what the lyrics means, why they’re written that way, and they’re learning organization through the production process of making it a musical. I have seen great creative and singing improvement from the first day I have met them. As I said, without these kids, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I am so thankful for all the faculty I work with, especially Director and Head Kazimiera Gal, for letting me take these ideas and dreams and reimburse them into reality.
Kasia Szczech.
